"We aim to fix politics and save democracy.  It is comparable to curing cancer.

Both should be attempted. Both can be achieved.

Nothing is more powerful than an idea whose time has come."

Recently, you've probably noticed, politics isn't working.

Since June 2016, there has been five Prime Ministers. This is not normal.

How did this happen?

An establishment civil war brought us Brexit, which cracked open the UK's two party duopoly.

Then the Coronavirus pandemic exposed multiple crises in neoliberal states worldwide.

We have reached the end of a phase of history and no one seems to know how to proceed.

What future is coming into view? In this moment, things seem to be getting worse.

Economic, health and racial injustice is now so apparent that it is beyond argument.

Corruption and cronyism is endemic as ruling elites seek to insulate themselves from existential crises.

No one is coming to save us. We can only save ourselves.

The United Kingdom's parliamentary system of Representative Democracy has failed the people it claims to serve.

However, there is an alternative. A bold vision for the future, not a failed ideology from the past.

A form of governance where citizens can exercise their democratic rights regularly, not just at general elections.

Its name is Direct Democracy.

Direct Democracy UK is a platform party, pursuing a single issue - to the improvment of all others - the upgrading of democracy and politics in the United Kingdom.

Direct Democracy UK will place into the hands of voters, technology that will maximise enfranchisement and revolutionise law making.

Westminster and it's ancient procedures cannot remain in the 18th century forever.

A Digital Democracy is now possible.

People are good. Voters can be trusted. Direct Democracy is the future of autonomy.

Democratic institutions today look much as they have done for decades, if not centuries, with the world's oldest parliaments remaining stubbornly indifferent to the possibilities of technology. At the same time, almost every other sphere of life - work, leisure, commerce and our social relations - has been transformed by digital technology and online services.

We live our lives one way, while politics seems to function in a different universe. This unaccountable indifference has contributed to our declining trust and confidence in democratic institutions.

Around the world political systems seem remote from our lives. They seldom seem to respond to us or belong to us. They function more like a playground for rival elites. Our establishment media is complicit in manufacturing consent for this status quo, as shallow and partisan news coverage obscures the sites of real power and the consequences of corruption.

Politics is messy. The business of government is complicated. But it could and should be improved, just as we strive to perfect most systems that hold such sway over our lives. It's time for an upgrade.

Representative Democracy, the idea that you vote for a person to represent your beliefs and opinions in a legislative body, such as Parliament, is a system of governance that dominates the world today. It is a centuries long and hard earned concession from ruling elites to give the appearance of democracy to a nation's citizens.

In reality, these "representatives" of democracy - in the UK the elected Members of Parliament - have captured real representation, only to find themselves a powerless cog in a vast and complex machine. These pointless middlemen and women MPs can only serve as pawns in the unproductive war of party politics. The “servants of the people” soon resort to self-preservation and have been exposed time and time again as only serving themselves and the interests of moneyed lobbyists.

There is an alternative to the chaos we now find ourselves in - not another failed ideology from the past - but a bold vision of the future. One that recognises how we live our lives and meets our needs and desires at the speed of fibre optic broadband. Its name is Direct Democracy

It is a deeply theorised system of governance, a form of which has been practised in Switzerland for decades. Surveys show that the Swiss Direct Democracy model is the most trusted form of government in OECD countries. Swiss citizens can propose changes to laws and approve government legislation at regular referendum days. The people hold the power of real sovereignty.

Direct Democracy UK is a platform party, pursuing a single issue - to the betterment of all others - the upgrading of democracy and politics in the United Kingdom. Direct Democracy is an egalitarian method and movement for greater personal autonomy. It offers a path to self-rule, where citizens can exercise their democratic rights regularly - not just at general elections.

Powerful and proficient. Simple and elegant. These are traits we often associate with our technology devices and internet services. Direct Democracy UK is a decentralised technology project as much as it is a neutral ideological platform. In the future it will provide voters with technology that will maximise enfranchisement and revolutionise law making. Products such as a smart phone voting app and online voting platform, will allow voters to conveniently register their democratic preferences and scrutinise anonymised results by demographic and region.

Direct Democracy, as an apolitical system, can exist above the fray of the bitter ideological divides of the preceding centuries. The distraction of party politics reduces competing ideologies to that of rival teams. While we argue and fight one another, real power and control remains in the hands of ruling elites. It is one of the reasons why people feel, 'no matter who you vote for nothing ever changes'.

But change is possible. As technological innovations and social movements continue to advance the prospects of ordinary citizens, Direct Democracy UK will step up to lead a peaceful movement towards self-rule in the United Kingdom. Our project's central aim, now that we have the technology to do so, is simply to replace MPs with the true will of the people. Their truth, their wishes, their democratic freedom of choice.
